YouTube TV Price Increase: Why Did It Happen?
The company attributes this price hike to rising content acquisition costs and expenses related to platform improvements. Here is the statement they shared with customers:
“YouTube TV has always strived to deliver the content you love, in the way you want it, with features that make it easier to enjoy the best of live TV.
To keep up with rising content costs and the investments we’re making in the quality of our service, we will be updating our monthly price from $72.99/month to $82.99/month starting January 13, 2025.
We don’t take these decisions lightly and understand the impact this has on our members. We are committed to offering features that are changing how we watch live TV, such as unlimited DVR storage and multiview, while supporting the breadth of YouTube TV’s content and vast library of on-demand movies and shows.
The price of your YouTube TV basic plan membership will change on your first billing cycle starting January 13, 2025, and will be charged to your payment method on file. To view your current plan, go to Settings > Membership for updated information. If you currently have a trial or promotional price for the basic plan, that promotion is still honored and will not change.”
