Selena lost her life on March 31, 1995, in a hotel room in Corpus Christi, at the age of 23. The tragedy occurred after she confronted Yolanda Saldívar for allegedly embezzling over $60,000 from the fan club and the boutique she managed for the artist.
According to testimonies presented during the trial, the two began arguing in room 158 around 11:00 a.m. At 11:48 a.m., Selena attempted to leave, but Saldívar pulled out a Taurus .38 caliber revolver and shot, injuring the singer in the right side of her back. The injury caused significant blood loss.
Despite the severity of her wound, Selena managed to exit the room and walked nearly 100 meters to the hotel reception, where she collapsed. Meanwhile, Saldívar fled to her red truck with the gun in hand.
Selena was immediately taken to the Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital. However, upon arrival, she showed no brain activity and could not breathe on her own. An hour later, she was declared dead.
