Bad news for S.W.A.T. fans! CBS has just confirmed that the hit police series starring Shemar Moore has been canceled, meaning there will be no more seasons. Here, we explain the reasons and everything we know about it.
Why was the S.W.A.T. series canceled?
After the first season, CBS and Sony Pictures Television reached financial agreements for the continuation of the show; however, this time no agreement was made, so once the eighth season concludes, there will be no new episodes.
This is not the first time the cancellation of the show has been announced, as in 2023 CBS stated that after season 6, there would be no more of the crime drama. To the surprise of fans, the network renewed the series in April of that year and ordered two more seasons… although it seems that, this time, the cancellation is final.

Through his Instagram account, Shemar Moore shared a video announcing the news to his fans and expressing his feelings about the series’ cancellation. The 54-year-old actor thanked the production team, calling them “the most amazing in Hollywood.”
Additionally, as his departure from CBS’s production became imminent, he didn’t miss the chance to ‘flirt’ with one of the world’s major streaming platforms.
“Thank you for the opportunity. Thank you for the journey. If you change your mind, I promise you’ll make a lot of people smile. But if you’re done, CBS, I thank you. Hello, Netflix, how are you?” he said.
When does season 8 of S.W.A.T. end?
The series began its eighth season in October 2024 and will conclude in May 2025.
What is S.W.A.T. about?
The series focuses on the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as they confront crime in the Californian city. Starring Shemar Moore as Daniel Harrelson, a former marine and SWAT sergeant who grew up in the area, the story explores his difficult balance between his roots and his duty as an officer.
Daniel leads an elite tactical unit that represents the last line of defense in the fight against crime in Los Angeles. He struggles between his loyalty to his hometown community and his commitment to his fellow officers, while also taking on the responsibility of being the legal guardian of a teenager.
Daniel’s team consists of David ‘Deacon’ Kay, a veteran SWAT officer passionate about his family who always puts the group first; Christina “Chris” Alonso, an expert agent and dog trainer; and Dominique Luca, an exceptional driver who gets them out of dangerous situations.
Also on the unit is Victor Tan, who, after starting in the LAPD Hollywood Division, relies on his informants in the community to assist the team, and Jim Street, the newest member of the group, who returns to SWAT after being dismissed for compromising his mission.
Commander Robert Hicks, a senior officer in the LAPD’s Special Operations Bureau, supervises all SWAT units in the Metro Division. After Captain Jessica Cortez’s departure to the FBI, the mayor appointed Lieutenant Piper Lynch as a tactical consultant for the SWAT team.
Her challenging approach raises questions about her true loyalty to the team. Under Daniel’s leadership, these brave men and women risk everything to protect their community and save lives.
