The cutest and fluffiest alien in the world is back! 23 years after the release of the animated movie, Disney will bring the new live-action Lilo & Stitch movie to the big screen, which will hit theaters sooner than you think.
So far, the production company has not revealed much about the film; however, some details have slowly emerged, such as the actors who will star in this new movie after some last-minute changes. Here’s everything we know about it.
Live-action Lilo & Stitch: COMPLETE list of actors
According to what Disney has revealed, the live-action movie will star Maia Kealoha as Lilo and Sydney Agudong as Nani. It was previously stated that the role of David would be played by Kahiau Machado; however, he was replaced.
The change came after an old post from the actor surfaced, in which he made racist comments, leading to severe criticism. In light of this, the production decided to distance itself from him and search for another actor to play Nani’s love interest.

What will the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie be about?
The filming of the Lilo & Stitch remake concluded in March 2024 in Hawaii. Just like other Disney remakes, this live-action version of Lilo & Stitch will keep the same plot as the animated film released in 2002.
The story follows Lilo, a Hawaiian girl who lives with her older sister, Nani, after the death of their parents. Due to a lack of friends, Nani takes Lilo to the local shelter with the intention of adopting a dog, but they end up adopting Stitch, an alien experiment created for mass destruction, with whom they will have many adventures.
When will live-action Lilo & Stitch be available on Disney Plus?
Movie releases come to the Disney streaming platform months after their theatrical release. Considering that the movie will be out in May of this year, it is expected to be available on Disney Plus by the end of 2025 or sometime in 2026.
Who is Maia Kealoha, the actress playing Lilo?
The casting for the movie was done through an open call, looking for a Hawaiian girl between six and eight years old. In this casting, Maia Kealoha, a seven-year-old actress, was chosen. Maia Kealoha has previously participated in films, such as “The Wrecking Crew” and “Moana 2.”
What will Stitch look like in the live-action Lilo & Stitch?
During a D23 panel last August, Disney gave the film’s fans a glimpse of what Stitch, also known as Experiment 626, will look like. In a short video, we can see the alien, who looks almost identical to the animated movie version, though cuter and fluffier than ever.
As a live-action film, Stitch’s design features more realistic fur and teeth textures. Of course, he retains his signature blue color. Here’s the video:
