Why is Valentine’s Day celebrated on February 14th?

This day has been known by different names: Valentine’s Day, Lover’s Day, or Love and Friendship Day, but few know that it dates back to the 3rd century in Ancient Rome.

At that time, a priest named Valentine defied Emperor Claudius II’s order, who had banned marriages for young people, thinking that unmarried men without family commitments would be better soldiers, as they had no emotional attachments.

Valentine, opposing this decree, began secretly performing marriages for couples in love, which led him to be considered the patron saint of lovers.

When the emperor discovered his actions, he sentenced Valentine to death on February 14th, 270, for disobeying his orders. Since then, Valentine’s Day has been celebrated every year in his memory.
