Special dates, such as Black Friday, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Mexico’s Buen Fin, have become strategic moments for brands aiming to capture the attention of consumers eager to find deals. Now, mobility platforms Uber and Lyft have announced they will offer a 50 percent discount to their users this Tuesday, November 5, during the United States presidential election.
According to data from the Statista Consumer Insights survey, the adoption rate of transportation platforms varies significantly between countries. Mexico and Brazil lead the selected nations in this graph, with 58 percent and 53 percent of online respondents, respectively, reporting they had used the app in the year before the survey.
Meanwhile, in the United States and the United Kingdom, about one in four people claim to have used it. The numbers are somewhat lower in Spain (22 percent), while in other European countries like France (13 percent), Italy (7 percent), and Germany (5 percent), the American company plays a much more minor role.
On the other hand, Lyft had 22.4 million active users in 2023. It is important to note that this service operates exclusively in the United States and Canada.
Uber and Lyft Give 50% Off on Election Day
On this election day, transportation companies like Uber and Lyft will be offering special promotions to help citizens get to their polling stations.
Both companies will provide a 50% discount on rides taken today, Tuesday.
The Uber app will feature an option called ‘Go Vote!’ which will allow users to get a discount of up to $10. Uber will offer an extra 25% discount nationwide for those heading to election watch parties—events where people gather to follow the progress of the election.
Lyft, on its part, will also offer a 50% discount on rides up to $10, using the promotional code VOTE24. This code will be valid not only for car rides but also for Lyft scooters and bikes.
Other mobility apps also have deals available. For example, Lime will allow two free rides on scooters and bikes using the code VOTE2024, making it easier to get to and from polling places.
Bird and Spin, two scooter companies, will also offer free rides with the code ROCKTHEVOTE2024 in the areas they serve.
Hertz, the car rental company, is offering one free rental day with the code 211636, although customers must pay for at least two rental days.
In various U.S. cities, public transportation services are offering free rides on buses or light rail trains to polling stations.
These kinds of promotions have been repeated in other instances. For example, on June 2 in Mexico, many brands launched promotions and even giveaways for people who voted in the presidential election.
