These products could rise in price in 2025 due to Trump tariffs

U.S. consumers may encounter price increases on various essential goods, ranging from food to household items, due to new trade policies anticipated in 2025.

The rise in prices of basic and general consumer goods is a phenomenon impacting both consumers and global markets. This challenge, driven by factors such as inflation, production costs, and geopolitical tensions, forces consumers to readjust their purchasing habits and prioritize their needs. Specialists are already warning of potential price increases in 2025 for certain products due to possible tariffs proposed by Donald Trump.

Consumer Adjustments to Price Increases

According to a recent study, 67% of families are adjusting their shopping habits by seeking more affordable brands, while 42% are opting to purchase only strictly necessary items. This dynamic not only reshapes consumption habits but also redefines the financial and emotional priorities of households.

Products That May Face Price Hikes

U.S. consumers may encounter price increases on various essential goods, ranging from food to household items, due to new trade policies anticipated in 2025.

Reports indicate that the prices of multiple products could rise as a result of new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. These measures would primarily impact consumers shopping at supermarkets and retail stores.

This policy is tied to the agenda of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who has proposed a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on imports from China.

According to an analysis by the progressive think tank Third Way, these tariffs could increase the average family’s annual grocery bill by approximately $185, representing a 3.3% hike.

“Prices are going to rise because consumers will bear the additional costs generated by these tariffs,” said Gabe Horwitz, Vice President of Third Way. “These increases will be especially difficult for lower-income individuals to absorb,” he added.

Affected Product Categories

Among the products expected to experience price hikes are meats, fish, coffee, vegetables, fruits, dairy, sugar, and baked goods.

Data from the USDA and Trading Economics indicate that imported products from China likely to be affected include coffee, tea, sugar, cocoa, and dairy products. Imports from Mexico could see price increases in categories such as vegetables, tropical fruits, juices, meat, and seafood.

Canada’s exports, including lumber, alcohol, dairy products, and books, could also face price surges.

The impact of these tariffs will extend beyond supermarkets, affecting other essential purchases such as school supplies, furniture, and electronics.

Moreover, the implementation of tariffs could provoke retaliatory measures from other countries, negatively impacting U.S. exporting businesses.
