When does Squid Game 3 premiere?

Recently, Netflix Korea released the official trailer for season three on its YouTube channel, confirming that it will be available on the platform on June 27, 2025.

However, the video was quickly removed, leading to speculation that the release date leak was an error from the company’s team. Error or not, the news already caused excitement among the series’ fans.

Official Squid Game 3 trailer

Netflix set social media on fire by posting an exclusive preview on its official X account. The trailer showcases the iconic “Red Light, Green Light” game.

The preview also introduces Chul-su, the male counterpart to the eerie doll Young-hee. As revealed, both characters will play a key role in the challenges of the new season, especially standing out in the first game.

What is Squid Game about?

Based on the Japanese mangas of Battle Royale, the series directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk explores an extreme survival concept where indebted individuals compete in children’s games with deadly consequences.

The plot follows Seong Gi-hun, a man burdened by financial problems, who, after winning a Ddakji game at a subway station in Seoul, receives an invitation to participate in the 33rd Squid Game. This game gathers hundreds of desperate people willing to risk their lives for a massive cash prize.

What will Squid Game 3 be about?

Season two left many loose ends and unanswered questions, creating high expectations for the upcoming season. The new season is expected to delve deeper into the story and present characters with even more intense challenges.

Squid Game 2 ended with a failed rebellion led by Gi-hun, which resulted in a tragic number of victims. With no viable alternatives, Gi-hun is forced to return to the sinister competition, where Cheol-su, the unsettling companion of the iconic doll from previous seasons, will make his debut.

Meanwhile, the leader of the game has abandoned his tactic of infiltrating among the participants and will resume his role as the public face of the organization. Gi-hun, unaware of this reality, believes the leader perished during the rebellion, although that perception will change as the third season progresses.

Hwang In-ho, who chose not to eliminate Gi-hun, suggests that the remaining players might survive as the games continue, as there are still three challenges left.

The biggest mystery revolves around Gi-hun’s future. Now, without the support of his loyal friend Jung-bae or the presence of Hwang In-ho as an infiltrator in the games, Gi-hun will have to face an uncertain destiny on his own.

How many episodes will Squid Game 3 have?

The official number of episodes for the third season has not been announced yet. However, according to the Korean website OSEN, it was previously mentioned that seasons two and three would have a total of 12 to 13 episodes. Since season two had seven episodes, this suggests that the upcoming season could include between 5 and 6 episodes.

Will there be more seasons of Squid Game?

No. The third season will mark the end of the series. This was confirmed by its creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, who explained that the narrative developed organically, leading it to conclude in three seasons.
