What is Squid Game 1 about?
“Squid Game” has become one of Netflix’s most iconic series. The story follows 456 people who, for various reasons, are going through severe financial difficulties: they are trapped by insurmountable debts and the problems that stem from them.
These individuals receive an invitation to participate in an enigmatic contest where the winner takes home a huge cash prize after overcoming a series of children’s games. However, what seems simple is actually mortally dangerous.
After the first game, the participants discover that those who fail to complete the challenge are brutally eliminated without mercy.
Who won Squid Game, season 1?
The outcome of the contest is determined between Gi-hun and Sang-Woo, who were childhood friends. The final test, which gives the series its name, pits them against each other in a deadly fight for the grand cash prize.
However, in the final moments, despite winning, Gi-hun decides to reject the prize to allow Sang-Woo to survive. Nevertheless, Sang-Woo chooses to take his own life, and as he dies, he asks Gi-hun to take care of his mother.
After the game ends, Gi-hun receives a debit card with the grand prize money and returns home, only to discover that his mother has passed away.
Why is it called Squid Game?
The name is inspired by a famous children’s game from the ’70s. In this game, two participants compete within an area marked by geometric shapes such as a circle, triangle, and square, which, when combined, form the shape of a squid.
