Who invented Pringles?
The invention of Pringles was the result of a collaborative effort between Fredric Baur, Alexander Liepa, and Gene Wolfe. Fredric Baur was the first to work on developing the iconic chip in the mid-1950s. His goal was to create a more uniform and durable alternative to traditional potato chips, which were often greasy, broken, and stale. After more than two years of research, Baur came up with both the chip’s signature curved shape (a hyperbolic paraboloid) and the now-iconic cylindrical can. He was so proud of his work that, per his wishes, part of his ashes were buried in a Pringles can after his death.

The project was later taken over by Alexander Liepa, who focused on enhancing the flavor of the chips. His key contributions earned him official recognition as the holder of the Pringles patent. Gene Wolfe played a crucial role by designing the machine that made mass production of these unique chips possible. Later in life, he became a well-known science fiction author, publishing over thirty novels.
