What does the Oreo cookie symbol mean?
On the design of the cookies, at the top center, you can see a sort of cross with two bars, a detail that refers to the Nabisco logo, the company responsible for production in the U.S. and Latin America. However, this symbol is similar to the well-known Lorraine Cross.
The Lorraine Cross was an emblem used in the Middle Ages, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil or the separation between the two. This same symbol is believed to have been used by the Templars during their invasion of Jerusalem when they decided to launch a crusade to expel the Turks living in the city.
What is the white part of the Oreo cookie?
According to the ingredient list on the product packaging, the well-known white filling that so delights consumers is made from a blend of sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, soy lecithin, palm oil and/or canola oil.
History of the Oreo Cookie
The history of this iconic cookie dates back to 1912 when the National Biscuit Company, now known as Nabisco, launched it to the market. However, the inspiration for this delicious cookie came from another variant called “Oreo Biscuit,” developed by Sunshine Biscuits in 1908. Nabisco acquired the formula and adjusted it, creating what we now recognize as the Oreo cookie.
Since its creation, this cookie has been known for its round shape and distinctive embossed design on both sides, along with the creamy white filling inside.
Over time, the cookie has evolved and adapted to satisfy the tastes of its consumers. One of the first and most significant modifications occurred in the 1970s when the double-stuffed version was launched. Later, in the 1990s, the Golden Oreo was introduced, offering a delicious vanilla flavor while maintaining the signature cream filling.
