McDonald’s launched a new vegan McFlurry ice cream: what you should know

McDonald's launched a new vegan McFlurry ice cream
In addition to these new products, McDonald's continues to engage its customers with exciting promotions.

McDonald’s is making a sweet, plant-based pivot with its newest dessert offerings. The fast-food giant has introduced two vegan ice cream options, Choco Scoop and Strawberry Scoop, catering to dairy-free and vegan customers. Currently, these delights are under a trial phase, available only in select locations across the U.K.

Limited Availability But Positive Reception

Although these vegan treats are limited to certain McDonald’s locations in north-west England, including Manchester and Stockport, they are already receiving glowing reviews.

How much does McDonald’s vegan ice cream cost?

These desserts, priced at £1.59 each, will be available until September 3, offering customers a new way to indulge responsibly.

Product Features and Customer Feedback

The Vegan Scoop is not just another ice cream; it’s a hybrid that feels like a cross between soft serve and traditional ice cream. Customers describe the chocolate version as akin to a cold chocolate mousse. Unlike traditional offerings, these vegan ice creams are served in tubs, avoiding the all-too-common issue of broken ice cream machines.

Beyond Ice Cream: A Look at Other Vegan Offerings

McDonald’s is also testing the McFreezy, a new ice lolly made from fruit juice and puree, available in Orange or Mango and Pineapple flavors. This addition complements other vegan items like the McPlant and Vegetable Deluxe, showcasing McDonald’s commitment to expanding its vegan menu.

In addition to these new products, McDonald’s continues to engage its customers with exciting promotions. The chain plans to distribute over 2,000 free portions of fries daily at various U.K. festivals throughout the summer. Moreover, in tribute to TV presenter Caroline Flack, McDonald’s will participate in Flackstock 2024, ensuring its presence is felt in both the main and VIP areas.

What Lies Ahead?

As the trial in the U.K. progresses, there is growing anticipation about whether these vegan options will make their way to the U.S. market. The success of the U.K. trial could potentially lead to a broader rollout, integrating these eco-friendly and inclusive dessert options into McDonald’s menus worldwide.
