McDonald’s is closing some of its new CosMc’s locations, just a year after opening the first one. According to the fast-food chain, three out of the seven branches will close this year. Here’s why.
Why is McDonald’s closing CosMc’s locations?
In a statement, the company explained that these closures do not mean that CosMc’s restaurants are going bankrupt. Instead, new locations will be built.
According to McDonald’s, the concept proves to be more effective in smaller spaces that were originally designed to house a more limited range of drinks and snacks.
“Since the opening of CosMc’s, we’ve had the advantage of testing different sizes and layouts, from renovating larger restaurant spaces to building smaller prototypes focused more on the digital and self-service experience,” said McDonald’s in the statement.

What does CosMc’s sell?
The menu offers a variety of options, including teas and lemonades, coffee, slushes, frappes, and exclusive fruit energy drinks called “Galactic Boosts.” Some of the specialties include a spiced latte with turmeric, iced coffee with marshmallows, a churro-inspired frappe, and an energy drink made with sour cherries.
As for the food offerings, although somewhat limited, they remain unique, featuring a spicy cheese sandwich, a creamy avocado and tomatillo sandwich, pretzels, tasty fries, a snack box, and delicious filled pastries called McPops. Customers can also enjoy cookies, sundaes, McFlurries, ice cream, and three classic McMuffin varieties.

The company did not clearly specify which locations will close. However, their website’s “locations” section indicates that the following stores have been removed from the list:

- 300 East Abram St., Building 150, Arlington, Texas
- 861 W Stacy Road, Allen, Texas
