Lowe’s History
Lowe’s Companies, Inc. is a well-known home improvement retail chain founded in the early 1920s in the United States by Lucie Lowe. After her passing, the company was passed on to her family, and in 1946, the decision was made to focus all Lowe’s stores exclusively on home improvement products.
The company’s expansion began in 1961 when it went public and already had 21 stores operating across the country. Today, Lowe’s handles approximately 16 million transactions weekly nationwide. During fiscal year 2024, its total sales surpassed $83 billion, and the company operates over 1,700 home improvement stores, employing around 300,000 people.
Headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina, Lowe’s is also deeply committed to the communities it serves, implementing programs that aim to create safe, affordable housing, improve public spaces, promote the development of future skilled professionals, and provide assistance in emergency situations to vulnerable communities.
