What is the Lego Festival?
Lego Group and Legoland Resorts, part of Merlin Entertainments, have collaborated to create the Lego Festival, a unique event marking the debut of a festival designed especially for children, where playing with Lego transforms into an epic and vibrant experience.
“Legoland Resorts have always been a child’s first experience in a theme park. Who better to offer them their first festival experience? Together with the Lego Group, we’ve created the best way to discover and experience the power of creative play in the hopes of sparking imagination, social connection, self-expression, and learning. As Merlin Entertainments’ first festival, we wanted to ensure that the Lego Festival was a place of fun and memorable experiences for the whole family, where imagination could soar and creativity would have no limits. The Lego Festival will embody what Legoland is: play as a way of life,” said Fiona Eastwood, CEO of Merlin Entertainments.
The Lego Festival offers five different areas to encourage guests to play in various ways, with the following zones:
- Music
- Creativity
- Dance
- Games
- Chill out
The visitor journey begins with a warm welcome and a special opportunity to capture memories at each Legoland park, where a unique, customized Lego model is displayed with the slogan “I heart Play.” After contributing to the model with their own creation, each child receives an exclusive Festival lanyard before starting their adventure through the five park zones, culminating in the “Play Pact” at the end of the day.
For every “Play Pact” made, Merlin Entertainments and the Lego Group are committed to organizing play moments for vulnerable children and families at a Legoland resort. This pact invites children to promise to build more, laugh louder, explore tirelessly, and, above all, always keep playing.
What is World Play Day?
World Play Day is a celebration organized by the Lego Group and Legoland in honor of International Play Day, established by the United Nations in March 2024. It is a day specially designed to highlight the benefits and happiness that play brings, inviting families around the world to take a moment to enjoy this activity together.
Why is playing important?
Play is one of the most effective forms of learning for children, as it offers key opportunities for their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development. Through play, children learn to make connections with others, develop leadership skills, strengthen resilience, manage relationships, overcome social obstacles, and face their fears.
When children play, they feel secure and find a way to understand the world around them. In general, play provides them with a space to express themselves and develop their imagination and creativity, essential skills in today’s technological and innovative world.
Additionally, playful interactions are crucial for the well-being and mental health of both children and their parents and caregivers. During times of humanitarian crisis that deeply affect children’s lives, play becomes a refuge where they find safety and comfort in the face of adversity while processing their experiences.
When children are forced to leave their homes due to war, conflict, or displacement, maintaining enriching relationships with their caregivers and playmates acts as a protective factor, helping to mitigate the negative effects of violence and suffering. In this way, play offers comfort and calm to children, providing them with a space to heal.
