It’s official! Lego Pokémon is becoming a reality, and new sets will soon hit the stores to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this iconic franchise. If you’re as excited as we are, here’s when it will arrive, what it’s like, and all the details. Take note!
What is the new Lego Pokémon set like?
Neither Lego Group nor Pokémon have revealed the characters that will be featured in these sets; however, a 14-second teaser leaves little doubt about who one of them might be. The video shows the logos of both brands, followed by an electric charge surrounding yellow blocks that form a well-known lightning-shaped tail: you guessed it… it’s Pikachu.
With these hints, it seems likely that the legendary Pokémon will be one of the sets, but we’ll have to wait for the official announcement from the brands. Here’s the video:
“We are thrilled to work with a brand that has such a deep and passionate fan base like Pokémon, partnering to deliver what our shared audiences have been asking for. We firmly believe that, through the endless possibilities of Lego play and the exciting adventures of the Pokémon world, this partnership will create a range of new possibilities for trainers and builders alike,” said Julia Goldin, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Lego Group, in a statement.

History of Pokémon
The history of Pokémon has its roots in the childhood of Satoshi Tajiri, a Japanese video game designer born in 1965 in Machida, a town in the Tokyo Prefecture, in a still largely rural Japan. As a child, Satoshi enjoyed exploring forests, lakes, and swamps, collecting insects that he later traded with his friends.
Although he dreamed of becoming an entomologist, his father preferred that he become an engineer, so he sent him to Tokyo. However, school wasn’t to his liking, and upon returning home, he found that the places from his childhood, where he used to collect insects, had been transformed into parking lots and shopping centers.
It was in this context that Satoshi began to develop what would later become Pokémon. He never imagined that his love for insects and his childhood hobby would give rise to one of the most successful media franchises in the world.
