The origin of Mardi Gras is fundamentally religious and dates back to the 17th century. At that time, this date was established as the end of the carnivals and various festivities that began in January, giving way to Ash Wednesday. This day marks the start of a six-week period of reflection and penitence before the Easter celebration.
The first Mardi Gras celebration in U.S. history took place on March 3, 1699, when French explorers Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville and Sieur de Bienville arrived near what is now known as New Orleans.

Mardi Gras is a festival that offers an unparalleled experience. More than just a parade, it’s a vibrant mix of music, costumes, and dance that fills the streets of the United States.
In New Orleans, for example, around 80 parades take place, traveling through the city and its surroundings. In addition to the colorful processions and various activities, the typical cuisine also plays a key role in the celebration.
