This presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia

Heading into the 2024 United States elections, the race for the White House hits a crucial moment this Tuesday, September 10th, with a debate between the current Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, and former President Donald Trump.

This presidential debate will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It marks the first direct confrontation between both candidates.

Where and when to watch the debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump?

The debate will be broadcast live by ABC News at 9:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

In addition to the live TV broadcast, the debate will also be accessible through ABC’s digital platforms, including ABC News Live, Disney+, and Hulu.

How long is the debate?

The debate is expected to last 90 minutes, including two commercial breaks, and will be moderated by journalists David Muir and Linsey Davis.

What are the rules of the debate?

These are the rules agreed upon by the Republican and Democratic parties, originally established when Joe Biden was running for president.

1. Muted Microphones

Similar to the previous debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the candidates’ microphones will be muted when it is not their turn to speak. This aims to prevent interruptions during the opponent’s remarks, ensuring that each candidate can present their points without interference.

This was initially requested by the Biden campaign and remains in place for this debate, despite Kamala Harris’s team attempting to modify the agreement. Ultimately, the original rules were upheld.

2. No Audience Present

The debate will be held without a live audience at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. This allows for a more controlled environment focused on the candidates’ responses, without distractions or live reactions that might influence the event’s flow.

3. Duration and Format

The debate will last a total of 90 minutes, with two commercial breaks. During this time, the candidates will answer questions on a variety of topics, including both domestic and international policies.

4. Time to Respond

Each candidate will have two minutes to respond to each question posed by the moderators. After the initial response, they will have an additional minute for clarifications, rebuttals, or expanding on their ideas.

5. Limited Interaction

The candidates will not be allowed to question or directly interact with each other beyond their assigned responses. This means the format will avoid confrontations or cross-examination between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

6. No Written Notes

Neither candidate will be permitted to bring written notes or use posters or props on stage. All content they present must be generated on the spot, based on their knowledge and prior preparation.

7. Closing Statements

The debate will conclude with a round of two-minute closing statements from each candidate. The order of closing statements was determined by a coin toss. Kamala Harris will go first, followed by Donald Trump.
