Joe Biden Tests Positive for Covid-19: What We Know About the President’s Health

The White House has confirmed Biden is experiencing "mild symptoms" but has been vaccinated and boosted, assuring the public of his proactive health management

President Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid-19, as reported by Janet Murguía, President and CEO of UnidosUS.

Initially scheduled to speak at the group’s conference in Las Vegas, Biden communicated his regret over the phone about being unable to attend due to his positive test result. Murguía shared with attendees, “He’s been to many events, as we all know, and just tested positive.” At 81 years old, Biden was supposed to take the stage an hour and a half before the announcement.

During her announcement, Murguía emphasized, “We understand that the necessary precautions are being taken. He mentioned, ‘Tell my people you won’t get rid of me that easily,’ and that we’ll hear from him in the future.”

Pressures on Biden to Forego Re-election

The New York Times and other prominent U.S. media outlets have documented growing concerns within the Democratic Party regarding President Biden’s intention to run for re-election. Following a series of challenging public appearances and a particularly poor debate performance, doubts have been raised about his viability as a candidate.

Calls for Reconsideration

Significant figures within the party, including Rep. Adam Schiff and others, have publicly urged Biden to reconsider his candidacy.

Their concerns are amplified by fears that Biden’s candidacy could jeopardize Democratic chances in critical House and Senate races this November. Nearly two-thirds of Democrats expressed a desire for Biden to exit the race, reflecting widespread apprehension about his ability to secure a victory against Donald Trump.

Amidst these concerns, Democratic leaders have successfully lobbied to delay Biden’s nomination by a week to allow more time for discussion about his candidacy. This delay reflects the internal conflicts and the pressure being exerted on Biden to step down from the race, underscoring the significant challenges he faces within his own party as he deals with his health and political future.
