instagram down falla 2025

This Wednesday, January 15, 2025, users in Mexico and the United States have reported significant issues with Instagram, the popular social media platform owned by Meta. Since approximately 9:00 a.m. (ET), Downdetector, a tool that monitors digital service interruptions, has recorded over 10,000 reports of failures.

Is Instagram down? What happened?

The issues reported by users include:

  • 65% of complaints related to the app.
  • 25% report server connection problems.
  • 10% mention difficulties logging in.

These inconveniences have led to a notable increase in Google searches related to phrases like “Instagram down,” “Is Instagram down today?” and “Instagram issues.”

The impact is most pronounced in the United States, particularly on the East Coast, with additional reports from Southern California and Texas. In Mexico, a significant increase in failure reports has also been observed.

Is Facebook down too?

While Instagram has been the primary focus of the reports, some users have experienced issues with Facebook, which is also owned by Meta. However, the interruptions on Facebook appear less widespread, affecting a smaller percentage of users:

  • 47% reported website issues.
  • 37% with the app.
  • 17% related to logging in.

Why is Instagram down?

So far, Meta has not issued an official statement regarding the cause of this interruption. It is expected that the company will provide more information in the coming hours.
Last December, Meta experienced a widespread outage lasting several hours across multiple platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.

What to do if Instagram isn’t working?

While the service is being restored, experts recommend:

  1. Checking the service status on Downdetector.
  2. Restarting the app or device.
  3. Waiting for Meta to resolve the issues.
