Elena Larrea, a Mexican animal rights activist, passed away at the early age of 30.
Larrea, known not only for her activism in favor of animals but also for her work as a model on OnlyFans, founded Cuacolandia, a sanctuary in Atlixco, Puebla, dedicated to the rehabilitation of equines rescued from situations of neglect and abuse.
Her impact on animal activism was strongly felt in Puebla, located in the central area of Mexico, where her work was key in classifying zoophilia as a crime, establishing significant penalties.
Additionally, she collaborated in the rescue of a filly named Mila, a case that captured public attention due to the cruelty the animal was subjected to.
Larrea focused on an issue often ignored by other activists: the exploitation of horses in heavy work such as horse-drawn carriages and carts. Her passion for these animals led her to create Cuacolandia, a refuge where mistreated horses found a new beginning.
OnlyFans Model with a Cause
The model and activist became a trending figure on social media, not only for her activism but also for funding the rehabilitation of these equines through her OnlyFans earnings, showing a total commitment to her cause.
In May 2023, the situation of 17 mistreated mares in Jalisco caught her attention and, with the support of her followers, she managed to rescue them. Her sanctuary, which houses 42 horses, became a model of rehabilitation, from the initial care in the hospital to their reintroduction with other equines under the supervision of a “sponsor” who facilitates their adaptation.
The refuge, which began its mission in 2017, faced financial challenges, especially with the arrival of the pandemic. Larrea’s decision to join OnlyFans arose as a necessity to sustain the sanctuary, managing to raise significant funds entirely dedicated to Cuacolandia. However, this choice cost her the support of her family, marking a before and after in her personal life.
The death of Elena Larrea leaves an immense void not only in animal activism but in the community that was inspired by her dedication and love for equines. Her legacy, however, will remain alive through Cuacolandia and the ongoing fight against animal mistreatment, remembering her figure as a beacon of hope and change.

What will happen to Cuacolandia?
Among the community of activists in favor of animal rights and Elena’s followers, there is fear and uncertainty about what will happen to the horses that the young woman rescued.
The Government of Puebla, through the Secretariat of the Environment, announced that it will take measures to ensure the care and protection of the equines that are in Cuacolandia, especially those derived from procedures of the Puebla Government’s Animal Welfare Institute (IBAGobPue).
This means that the state will ensure that these animals continue to receive the level of care and attention they need, respecting Larrea’s legacy.
Furthermore, the Puebla government committed to providing support to other equines that require attention, collaborating with the instances that originally rescued them. This collective effort will ensure that the horses, regardless of their origin, receive the necessary treatment and protection, always prioritizing their well-being.
Sergio Salomón, governor of Puebla, wrote the following message on his social networks, regarding the death of Elena Larrea.
I deeply regret the passing of Elena Larrea, a tireless fighter for the defense of animal welfare.
The rescue of thousands of equines in conditions of mistreatment leaves a testament to her life and work.
On behalf of the Government of #Puebla, we extend our solidarity hug to her family and friends. We inform that through the Secretariat of the Environment, we will guarantee the safeguard of the specimens that are in @cuacolandia1, derived from procedures of the @IBAGobPue. Likewise, we will provide all the necessary help so that other specimens are attended to by the instances that rescued them as well as the rest of the equines, prioritizing their well-being at all times.
We will follow your example. Rest in peace, Elena.
