It’s the Starbucks at Carbrook Hall, located in Sheffield, England, known for its terrifying legends. This establishment has been dubbed “the most haunted coffee shop in the UK,” attracting both coffee lovers and ghost hunters, intrigued by its chilling reputation.
Carbrook Hall: A Historic Building with Centuries of Mystery
Sheffield, famous for its industrial past and home to the world’s oldest football club, also holds darker tales. Carbrook Hall, a building dating back to the 17th century, is one of the oldest corners of the city. Built in 1620, this historic property has witnessed crucial moments in Sheffield’s history, including the Siege of Sheffield Castle. 
Although much of the original building was demolished in the 19th century, a heritage-listed (Grade II) stone wing was preserved and is all that remains of the old mansion. This place, used as a tavern until 2016, transformed into a Starbucks Drive Thru in 2019. However, not all presences left when patrons switched from beer to lattes.

Paranormal Activity at Starbucks
The legend of Carbrook Hall’s ghosts has persisted for centuries, and Starbucks’ arrival wasn’t enough to scare off the former inhabitants. Since the café opened, employees and customers have reported unexplainable phenomena: hurried footsteps echoing on the stairs with no one in sight, coffee bags falling off shelves without apparent reason, and other eerie occurrences that send chills through baristas and patrons alike.
In 2022, the legend reached a new level when professional ghost hunters Lee and Linzi Steer, known for their skill in detecting paranormal energies, visited the location. Their specialized equipment detected anomalous activity in various areas of the building, confirming what many had suspected: Carbrook Hall remains a hotspot for ghostly activity.
The Oak Room and Its Mysterious Energy
One of the eeriest spots in Starbucks is the famous oak-paneled room, known as “The Oak Room”, which retains its original ornate stone fireplace and a unique ambiance that blends history with the supernatural. During their visit, the Steers noted that their equipment reacted strongly in this room, where customers often sit quietly with their coffee. The ghost hunters claimed that spirits seemed particularly drawn to this room, as if they had something to say about the building’s past. 
“We felt like the spirits were eager to speak with us. We even heard one say ‘the siege,’ which is incredible, knowing that Carbrook Hall was a gathering spot during the siege of Sheffield Castle,” remarked Linzi Steer.
A Starbucks with a Gateway to the Beyond?
In addition to mysterious sounds and objects seeming to move on their own, the ghost hunters also detected the presence of a woman sitting in a quiet corner of the café. According to the Steers, this female figure didn’t seem to have ill intentions but certainly left her mark on the place, demonstrating that the past is alive at Carbrook Hall, even if it has been remodeled for new generations of customers. 
“This is without a doubt the most haunted Starbucks in the UK,” concluded the investigators after their unsettling visit. “The energy here is strong and consistent, and it seems like the ghosts are as comfortable here as the customers who come for their coffee.”
