This year, Kohl’s doors will once again remain closed on Thanksgiving Day.
The Wisconsin-based store revealed last week that it would shut down all its outlets on November 24. The business owns Over 1,100 Kohl’s outlets located in 49 states. This will mark the retailer’s third time to close its doors on the holiday in three consecutive years. It introduced this custom back in 2020.
The retailer started operating its locations at 5 p.m. in 2019. on the trick-or-treat day.
In a press release, the firm said, “Kohl’s served millions of consumers both in-store and online throughout Black Friday week last year, and we look forward to providing our customers with the same fantastic experience again this year.”
With Kohl’s doors shut, where will customers shop on Halloween?
The retailer stated that customers would continue to place online orders on Thanksgiving Day. But they can purchase in-person on Black Friday and throughout the week.
Other stores, like Target, Walmart, Dicks’ Sporting Goods, and Best Buy, have also decided to close their outlets and give employees the holiday off. However, only Best Buy and Kohl’s are the only stores to have declared Thanksgiving closures for 2022.
Other retailers choose to dump holidays
Thanksgiving is one of the biggest shopping days of the year for many merchants as customers race to start their holiday shopping. However, many businesses, including H&M, Nordstrom, and TJ Maxx, chose to close their doors or give their staff the day off even before the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 significantly altered retail customs.
After closing its doors on Black Friday every year since 2015, REI decided to take a more severe step this year and decided to permanently close its stores every year during the holiday. The annual “Opt Outside” campaign was started as a method to let employees spend Thanksgiving Day weekend with their loved ones and to urge customers to go outside and buy.
