How much will the Slate Truck cost?

Slate’s new electric pickup will be priced at around $20,000.

What is the Slate Truck like?

What is Slate?

Slate is a new electric vehicle brand with a mission to provide affordable and quality EVs. The company currently employs around 400 people and is positioning itself as a strong competitor to Tesla, the global leader in electric vehicle sales owned by Elon Musk.

Since its founding, Slate has raised $111 million in funding. The majority of this backing comes from Jeff Bezos, owner of Amazon, who supports the project. Several former Amazon executives are also involved with Slate.

Will tariffs affect Slate’s new electric truck?

Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump announced 25% tariffs on all cars not manufactured in the U.S., including auto parts. This raised questions about whether the new Slate Truck would be impacted.

In response, Slate executives clarified that all of their parts are made in the U.S., with the exception of items like tires. Additionally, the parts are unstamped and made from composite materials, making them easier to produce and exempt from the new tariffs.

On top of the tariff exemption, Slate noted that their manufacturing costs are lower because the vehicles’ exterior parts are pre-dyed in slate gray, eliminating the need for additional painting.
