William Gutiérrez Levy was born on August 29, 1980, in Havana, Cuba. During his teenage years, he emigrated to Miami with his family, where he eventually rose to fame starring in popular Spanish-language soap operas.

Though his maternal grandfather was Jewish, William was raised in a secular household. He moved to the United States with his mother, his brother Jonathan, and his sister Barbara, settling in Miami, Florida. There, he attended Barbara Goleman Senior High School in the Miami Lakes area. Later, he enrolled at St. Thomas University, where he studied business administration on a baseball scholarship. His passion for the arts led him to Los Angeles to study acting, a path he continued to pursue in both Miami and Mexico City.

Levy started his career as a model with Next Models agency. He later transitioned to television by participating in Telemundo reality shows like Isla de la Tentación and Protagonistas de Novela. In 2005, he appeared in the play La Nena Tiene Tumbao at the Centro de Bellas Artes in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His acting career in telenovelas steadily progressed with roles in Olvidarte Nunca on Univision, followed by Mi Vida Eres Tú and Acorralada.

That same year, he starred in the Spanish-language film Retazos de Vida, directed by Viviana Cordero. Shortly after, he landed the lead role in Cuidado con el Ángel alongside Maite Perroni. The show premiered in Mexico in June 2008 and began airing in the U.S. on Univision in September of the same year, drawing an average of five million viewers nightly. In 2009, he followed up with another successful telenovela, Sortilegio, also broadcast on Univision.

Levy continued to diversify his career, including voicing the Spanish-language version of the animated film Planet 51, which premiered in Mexico in November 2009 and won Best Spanish-Language Animated Film at the Goya Awards that year.
