Mexican television mourns the death of Guillermo “Memo” del Bosque, a pioneering producer who left a lasting mark on pop culture. Known for his creativity and innovation, Del Bosque passed away at the age of 62 after a long battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that attacks the lymphatic system.

What kind of cancer did Memo del Bosque have?

Memo del Bosque was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2017. This aggressive cancer primarily affects white blood cells and is known for weakening the immune system. From the moment of diagnosis, Del Bosque began a relentless battle against the illness, undergoing 12 rounds of chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, and extensive medical treatment over several years.

Despite the gravity of his condition, Del Bosque remained optimistic. In 2020, he publicly celebrated having overcome the disease, thanks to the rigorous therapies and the unwavering support of his loved ones.

However, in March 2025, Memo experienced a severe relapse. He was hospitalized in Texas, and although he continued to receive treatment, his health deteriorated. His wife, Costa Rican TV host Vica Andrade, shared a heartfelt video of him surrounded by family in the hospital, asking for prayers and support during the final stretch of his fight.

What did Memo del Bosque say before he died?

On the morning of his passing, a moving farewell message was posted to his Instagram Stories. Written in first person and signed by the producer himself, the post read:

“Today I wish to share that I’ve come to the end of my life. Cancer was a fierce battle that I fought with all I had, but God has decided that this illness should not hurt me any longer. I thank God for allowing me to live since I was diagnosed in 2017, and for the time I got to enjoy with my children, Vica, and my entire family.”

In a deeply spiritual tone, he added:

“I’m thankful for my friends who never left me. Thank you for all your love. It has been a long journey of experiences and emotions that I’m grateful to have lived and shared with each of you. Now I’ve finished the fight, my struggle is over, and I’m a new being rejoicing in the presence of my Creator. The earth sings, the heavens worship, and everyone shouts that You are holy, my Lord.”

Who was Memo del Bosque and what was his contribution to Mexican television?

Born in 1962, Guillermo del Bosque began his career in television in the early 1990s. His big breakthrough came in 1993 when he launched Telehit, a music television channel aimed at young audiences. The channel became a launchpad for now-iconic shows such as El Calabozo, Black and White, No Manches, and El planeta de cabeza.

In the mid-2000s, Del Bosque also produced comedy and variety shows that became part of Mexican television history, including Al fin de semana with Jorge “Coque” Muñiz, Mónica Noguera, and Vica Andrade.

His creative vision later extended to hit series such as La Jaula (2004), 100 Mexicanos Dijeron (2009), and Nosotros los guapos. He also produced TV specials like the Premios TVyNovelas and Premios Telehit.

After nearly three decades at Televisa, Memo del Bosque announced his departure from the media giant in 2022. His legacy remains firmly embedded in the evolution of youth and pop culture programming in Mexico.

What happened between Memo del Bosque and Mónica Noguera?

Memo del Bosque was once married to television host Mónica Noguera. Their relationship began during their time working together at Telehit. Though their courtship lasted seven years, their marriage only lasted one.

Rumors of infidelity surrounded their divorce, particularly because Memo soon began a relationship with Vica Andrade—Mónica’s close friend and colleague. However, in a later interview on El minuto que cambió mi destino, Noguera clarified that there was no overlap, saying their relationship had already ended before Vica and Memo began dating.

Despite their brief marriage, Noguera maintained a respectful relationship with Del Bosque and remained close to his family.

Who is Memo del Bosque’s wife and who are his children?

Memo del Bosque found enduring love with Vica Andrade, a Costa Rican TV host. Together, they raised a family of four children:

  • Luca
  • Luna
  • Coral
  • Sean, Vica’s son from a previous relationship with Jean Paul Andrade
