What is Happy Gilmore about?
Happy Gilmore is a young man with dreams of becoming a hockey player. Although he has an impressive slapshot, inherited from his late father, he also has excessive aggression and a complete lack of skating skills, which constantly prevents him from joining any professional hockey team.
After his father’s death, Happy was raised by his grandmother, who over the years has accumulated $270,000 in unpaid taxes. As a result, the house his grandfather built is about to be foreclosed. Happy has only three months to raise the necessary money or they will lose the house. In this situation, his grandmother is forced to temporarily move into a nursing home managed by the cruel and heartless Hal.
While his grandmother’s furniture is being confiscated, two movers challenge Happy to hit golf balls, and with his unconventional hockey swing, he manages to drive the ball 400 yards three times, winning $40. This gives Happy the idea to head to a driving range and challenge golfers with his unique swing.
When his talent is noticed by Chubbs Peterson, a former golf star now working as a club professional, he convinces Happy to enter a local tournament, promising that he could win enough money to save his grandmother’s house. After winning the tournament, Happy earns a spot on the Pro Golf Tour. Chubbs advises Happy to wait six months before joining the tour to improve his game and become a more complete golfer.
However, disregarding Chubbs’ advice, Happy joins the tour immediately. On the tour, he quickly becomes rivals with the arrogant Shooter McGavin, who sees him as a threat to his career and a distraction to the world of golf.
What happened at the end of Happy Gilmore?
At the end of the original Happy Gilmore film, the protagonist, played by Adam Sandler, finally gets a chance to relax after an intense and exhausting golf season. In his quest to raise enough money to settle his grandmother’s back taxes (what a mess!), this aspiring hockey player used his unusual skills on the course, becoming the most unconventional golfer the Tour Championship had ever seen.
Along the way, Happy made friends with memorable characters, like the unforgettable Carl Weathers, who played Chubbs Petersen, a man with one hand, and a homeless caddie played by Allen Covert. He also found rivals in the arrogant Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald, and the famous Bob Barker.
However, despite all the obstacles he faced, Happy triumphed over seemingly insurmountable odds. He showed golf fans who the true king of the course was, saved his grandmother’s house, and finally returned home.
