Decline in Tesla Sales

Electric vehicle sales worldwide have experienced not only a slowdown, but in 2024, they even recorded a decrease compared to the previous year.

One of the manufacturers most affected by this trend was Tesla, which, although it managed to maintain its position as the leader in electric car sales globally, was unable to reach the figures seen in 2023, marking its first setback in its 12-year history.

In 2019, Tesla sold 367,656 vehicles, achieving a 50% growth compared to the previous year. In 2020, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the company grew by 36%. In 2021, it achieved an 87% increase. In 2022, sales continued to rise with a 40% growth, and in 2023, they increased by 38%, reaching 1,808,581 units sold. However, in 2024, the numbers dropped to 1,789,226, reflecting a 1% decrease.

What Type of Cars Do Young People Prefer?

A survey conducted by Economist Impact, funded by Nissan, analyzed the future mobility choices of young urban residents. The results, based on the responses of 3,750 participants in 15 cities worldwide, reveal younger generations’ preference for electric vehicles.

According to this survey, 57% of young residents in cities are willing to change their travel habits to reduce their carbon footprint; those in emerging cities see environmental concerns as an urgent issue for their mobility options.

With these results, it’s expected that the purchase of electric vehicles among young people will increase from the current 23% to over 35% in the next decade, especially in emerging cities, where 44% of respondents expect to drive electric vehicles in the next five years.
