Meta Platforms will test paid subscription service for its Meta AI chatbot

According to international media, Meta Platforms plans to test a paid subscription service for its AI-powered chatbot, Meta AI, similar to those offered by OpenAI and Microsoft for access to advanced versions of their chatbots.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Platforms Targets ChatGPT with Plans to Launch an Independent Artificial Intelligence (AI) Application

The AI industry has become one of the fastest-growing and most promising sectors worldwide. With a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 35 percent between 2020 and 2024, the global AI market is expected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2030, according to reports from consulting firms like PwC and McKinsey.

In this regard, the growth of this industry is also driven by investment in research and development. Countries like the United States, China, and the United Kingdom lead the creation of startups and the development of advanced technologies, while Latin America is beginning to stand out with initiatives in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.

Meta Platforms to Test Subscription Service

According to international media, Meta Platforms plans to test a paid subscription service for its AI-powered chatbot, Meta AI, similar to those offered by OpenAI and Microsoft for access to advanced versions of their chatbots.

The source said the test will begin in the second quarter of this year, but they do not expect the subscription service to generate significant revenue until next year at the earliest.

We must remember that this technology was launched in September 2023. Meta AI is a virtual assistant that uses large language models to perform reasoning tasks.

The move comes as Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, aims to strengthen the company’s position against its rivals OpenAI and Google, backed by Microsoft, in the race to dominate the AI space.

In this regard, Zuckerberg said in January that the company plans to spend up to $65 billion this year to expand its artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Meta is also establishing a new division within its Reality Labs unit to develop AI-powered humanoid robots that can help with physical tasks, Reuters reported earlier this month.

The social media giant plans to launch a standalone Meta AI application to join Facebook and Instagram during the second quarter.

Zuckerberg is not alone, as major tech companies have been investing tens of billions of dollars to develop AI infrastructure following the success of ChatGPT.

It’s worth noting that in January, Microsoft announced plans to invest around $80 billion in the 2025 fiscal year to develop data centers, while Amazon said its spending in 2025 would exceed the estimated $75 billion for 2024.

In conclusion, the artificial intelligence industry is not only redefining how businesses and governments operate but also the daily lives of people. With immense potential and significant challenges, the key will be balancing innovation with responsibility to make the most of this technological revolution.
