What is the plot of The Last Of Us?
The Last of Us is an American television series that debuted on January 15, 2023, on HBO. This production is inspired by the video game of the same name released in 2013 by Naughty Dog.
The plot takes place in a world devastated by a pandemic caused by a fungus that infects humans and turns them into zombie-like creatures. Twenty years after the outbreak, Joel, a smuggler from Boston, meets Ellie, a young girl who possesses the rare ability to be immune to the fungus infection.
This means that, even if she is bitten by a zombie, she does not turn into one. From this encounter, Ellie becomes Joel’s charge, as he searches for his brother Tommy. The narrative follows the journey that Joel and Ellie undertake from Boston to find Tommy, facing numerous obstacles along the way, including the constant threat of zombies.
What are the zombies called in The Last of Us?
They are named according to the stage of infection they are in:
- Stage 1: Runners. The person has just been infected, and the fungus has not yet spread throughout the body, so they still appear human, even though they are not.
- Stage 2: Stalkers. After two weeks of infection, the growth of fungi and the shedding of skin become visible in the runners. In this stage, the creatures lose their human sounds and emit croaks.
- Stage 3: Clickers. At this stage, the Cordyceps has covered, disfigured, and completely removed the eyes and body. The infected’s heads resemble large flowers that open in their skulls.
- Stage 4: Bloaters or Shamblers. By this point, the invasive fungus has hardened, forming protective plates. The creatures are slow and clumsy, but more aggressive.
Will there be a third season of The Last of Us?
Regarding the possibility of Joel and Ellie’s story continuing after the second season, the creators have denied that there are plans to continue the series, as it will not have an open ending, so everything could conclude in this installment.
