Do you hate calling people on the phone? Google will do it for you in its new function

Google is testing a new tool that allows artificial intelligence to make phone calls to businesses and ask questions on your behalf.

Mobile applications continue to evolve, offering more intuitive, secure, and personalized experiences. Major tech companies have recently surprised users with innovative features that are transforming how they interact with their devices and digital services. Now, if you hate making phone calls, Google will do it for you with a new feature in development.

According to recent data, the Google Play Store leads the market with approximately 3.55 million apps available, followed by Apple’s App Store, which offers around 1.64 million apps for iOS devices.

Additionally, in 2023, approximately 299 billion app downloads were recorded worldwide, highlighting users’ growing reliance on these digital tools.

Google Will Make Calls for You with Its New Feature

Google is testing a new tool that allows artificial intelligence to make phone calls to businesses and ask questions on your behalf.

“Ask for Me” is a feature designed to gather information about details such as pricing and service availability.

Google’s new feature uses AI to call businesses over the phone. However, for now, it is only available for nail salons and auto repair shops, according to Rose Yao, Google’s product leader, in a post on X.

Once you opt into the experiment in Google Search Labs, when you search for nail salons or auto repair shops, you may see the “Ask for Me” option.

From there, you would select it and answer a series of questions, such as what type of car you have, what service you need, and when you would like the appointment. You will also provide your email and phone number to receive updates about your request.

Google spokesperson Craig Ewer told The Verge that with “Ask for Me,” “each call begins by announcing that it is an automated system calling from Google on behalf of a user.”

Ewer also told The Verge that there are call quotas in place to ensure businesses do not receive too many automated calls from Google. He stated that any information collected during the call “may be used to assist with similar requests from other users.”

Businesses that do not want to receive these automated calls can opt out in their Google Business Profile settings or inform Google when they receive a call.

Users who enable the feature may be placed on a waitlist, as capacity is limited during the experiment, Yao clarified.

She added that “Ask for Me” was developed using the same Duplex technology that employs artificial intelligence to make restaurant reservations via Search or Maps, as well as to help businesses keep details like store hours updated on Maps.
