Squid Game Spin-offs
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of the series, has shared that he is considering developing stories focused on secondary characters or events that have not been explored in the main storyline. One of his ideas is to fill the narrative gaps between the aired seasons.
One of the timelines that he could address is the three-year period between the first and second seasons, during which figures like Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) and Recruiter (Gong Yoo) may have experienced important events that have not yet been shown on screen.
Additionally, Dong-hyuk has expressed interest in delving into the lives of the masked guards who operate within the game. He finds it intriguing to explore how they ended up in those roles and what happens in their lives outside the game environment.
What is Squid Game about?
Inspired by Japanese Battle Royale mangas, the series directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk presents an extreme survival concept in which indebted people participate in children’s games with lethal consequences.
The story centers on Seong Gi-hun, a man overwhelmed by his financial troubles, who, after winning a Ddakji game at a subway station in Seoul, is invited to compete in the 33rd Squid Game. This event gathers hundreds of desperate individuals who risk their lives in the hope of winning a multi-million-dollar prize.
